{"cve":"CVE-2025-58451","nvd":{"published":"2025-09-08T22:15:34.780","modified":"2026-06-17T09:44:28.897","status":"Deferred","description":"Cattown is a JavaScript markdown parser. Versions prior to 1.0.2 used regular expressions with inefficient, potentially exponential worst-case complexity. This could cause excessive CPU usage due to excessive backtracking on crafted inputs. In turn, the excessive CPU usage could lead to resource exhaustion, where processing malicious inputs could cause high CPU or memory usage, potentially leading to denial of service. Version 1.0.2 contains a patch. Additionally, users should review and restrict input sources if untrusted inputs are processed.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":8.7},"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":["CWE-400","CWE-1333"],"references":["https://github.com/IEatUranium238/Cattown/commit/70c2a28fb7dc520cfb7e401e0e141bff3dd26ead","https://github.com/IEatUranium238/Cattown/security/advisories/GHSA-455v-w7r9-3vv9"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:08:41.295252406+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2025-58451","score":0.00334,"percentile":0.26848,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-455v-w7r9-3vv9","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-455v-w7r9-3vv9","summary":"Cattown is Vulnerable to Uncontrolled Resource Consumption through Inefficient Regular Expression Complexity","modified":"2025-09-25T21:44:20Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"cattown","purl":"pkg:npm/cattown","ranges":["<1.0.2"],"fixed":["1.0.2"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
