{"cve":"CVE-2025-58359","nvd":{"published":"2025-09-05T00:15:32.500","modified":"2026-06-17T09:44:21.510","status":"Deferred","description":"ZF FROST is a Rust implementation of FROST (Flexible Round-Optimised Schnorr Threshold signatures). In versions 2.0.0 through 2.1.0, refresh shares with smaller min_signers will reduce security of group. The inability to change min_signers (i.e. the threshold) with the refresh share functionality (frost_core::keys::refresh module) was not made clear to users. Using a smaller value would not decrease the threshold, and attempts to sign using a smaller threshold would fail. Additionally, after refreshing the shares with a smaller threshold, it would still be possible to sign with the original threshold, potentially causing a security loss to the participant's shares. This issue is fixed in version 2.2.0.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":6.0},"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":["CWE-325"],"references":["https://github.com/ZcashFoundation/frost/commit/379ef689c733b3d9c80fd409071d4f3af4dafed2","https://github.com/ZcashFoundation/frost/releases/tag/frost-core%2Fv2.2.0","https://github.com/ZcashFoundation/frost/security/advisories/GHSA-wgq8-vr6r-mqxm"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:08:41.295252406+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2025-58359","score":0.00293,"percentile":0.21886,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-wgq8-vr6r-mqxm","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-wgq8-vr6r-mqxm","summary":"frost-core: refresh shares with smaller min_signers will reduce security of group","modified":"2025-09-05T16:11:20Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"frost-core","purl":"pkg:cargo/frost-core","ranges":[">=2.0.0 <2.2.0"],"fixed":["2.2.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
