{"cve":"CVE-2025-58358","nvd":{"published":"2025-09-04T10:42:32.993","modified":"2026-06-17T09:44:21.407","status":"Deferred","description":"Markdownify is a Model Context Protocol server for converting almost anything to Markdown. Versions below 0.0.2 contain a command injection vulnerability, caused by the unsanitized use of input parameters within a call to child_process.exec, enabling an attacker to inject arbitrary system commands. Successful exploitation can lead to remote code execution under the server process's privileges. The server constructs and executes shell commands using unvalidated user input directly within command-line strings. This introduces the possibility of shell metacharacter injection (|, >, &&, etc.). This issue is fixed in version 0.0.2.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-77"],"references":["https://github.com/zcaceres/markdownify-mcp/commit/a31204de058b22a47e1dcc24508993cfe97e5bb3","https://github.com/zcaceres/markdownify-mcp/security/advisories/GHSA-45qj-4xq3-3c45"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:08:41.295252406+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2025-58358","score":0.00965,"percentile":0.61712,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-45qj-4xq3-3c45","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-45qj-4xq3-3c45","summary":"mcp-markdownify-server vulnerable to command injection in pptx-to-markdown tool","modified":"2025-09-04T13:52:30Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"mcp-markdownify-server","purl":"pkg:npm/mcp-markdownify-server","ranges":["<0.0.2"],"fixed":["0.0.2"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
