{"cve":"CVE-2025-58160","nvd":{"published":"2025-08-29T22:15:32.887","modified":"2026-10-18T21:10:00.120","status":"Deferred","description":"tracing is a framework for instrumenting Rust programs to collect structured, event-based diagnostic information. Prior to version 0.3.20, tracing-subscriber was vulnerable to ANSI escape sequence injection attacks. Untrusted user input containing ANSI escape sequences could be injected into terminal output when logged, potentially allowing attackers to manipulate terminal title bars, clear screens or modify terminal display, and potentially mislead users through terminal manipulation. tracing-subscriber version 0.3.20 fixes this vulnerability by escaping ANSI control characters when writing events to destinations that may be printed to the terminal. A workaround involves avoiding printing logs to terminal emulators without escaping ANSI control sequences.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:P/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":2.3},"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":["CWE-150"],"references":["https://github.com/tokio-rs/tracing/security/advisories/GHSA-xwfj-jgwm-7wp5"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:07:46.309729541+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2025-58160","score":0.00341,"percentile":0.27338,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-xwfj-jgwm-7wp5","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-xwfj-jgwm-7wp5","summary":" Tracing logging user input may result in poisoning logs with ANSI escape sequences","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:27.766863705Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"tracing-subscriber","purl":"pkg:cargo/tracing-subscriber","ranges":["<0.3.20"],"fixed":["0.3.20"]}]},{"id":"RUSTSEC-2025-0055","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/RUSTSEC-2025-0055","summary":"Logging user input may result in poisoning logs with ANSI escape sequences","modified":"2026-10-12T18:00:11.495445205Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"tracing-subscriber","purl":"pkg:cargo/tracing-subscriber","ranges":[">=0.0.0-0 <0.3.20"],"fixed":["0.3.20"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
