{"cve":"CVE-2025-54590","nvd":{"published":"2025-08-01T18:15:55.577","modified":"2026-06-17T09:40:21.370","status":"Deferred","description":"webfinger.js is a TypeScript-based WebFinger client that runs in both browsers and Node.js environments. In versions 2.8.0 and below, the lookup function accepts user addresses for account checking. However, the ActivityPub specification requires preventing access to localhost services in production. This library does not prevent localhost access, only checking for hosts that start with \"localhost\" and end with a port. Users can exploit this by creating servers that send GET requests with controlled host, path, and port parameters to query services on the instance's host or local network, enabling blind SSRF attacks. This is fixed in version 2.8.1.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:L/VI:N/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":6.9},"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":["CWE-918"],"references":["https://github.com/silverbucket/webfinger.js/commit/b5f2f2c957297d25f4d76072963fccaee2e3095a","https://github.com/silverbucket/webfinger.js/releases/tag/v2.8.1","https://github.com/silverbucket/webfinger.js/security/advisories/GHSA-8xq3-w9fx-74rv"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:05:46.678065081+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2025-54590","score":0.00663,"percentile":0.51696,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-8xq3-w9fx-74rv","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-8xq3-w9fx-74rv","summary":"webfinger.js Blind SSRF Vulnerability","modified":"2025-08-01T18:36:22Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"webfinger.js","purl":"pkg:npm/webfinger.js","ranges":["<2.8.1"],"fixed":["2.8.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
