{"cve":"CVE-2025-53893","nvd":{"published":"2025-07-15T18:15:24.287","modified":"2026-06-17T09:39:05.460","status":"Analyzed","description":"File Browser provides a file managing interface within a specified directory and it can be used to upload, delete, preview, rename, and edit files. In version 2.38.0, a Denial of Service (DoS) vulnerability exists in the file processing logic when reading a file on endpoint `Filebrowser-Server-IP:PORT/files/{file-name}` . While the server correctly handles and stores uploaded files, it attempts to load the entire content into memory during read operations without size checks or resource limits. This allows an authenticated user to upload a large file and trigger uncontrolled memory consumption on read, potentially crashing the server and making it unresponsive. As of time of publication, no known patches are available.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:P","score":7.7},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":6.5},"cwes":["CWE-400","CWE-789"],"references":["https://github.com/filebrowser/filebrowser/issues/5294","https://github.com/filebrowser/filebrowser/security/advisories/GHSA-7xqm-7738-642x"],"products":["filebrowser:filebrowser"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:04:28.436527499+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2025-53893","score":0.00406,"percentile":0.34853,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-7xqm-7738-642x","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-7xqm-7738-642x","summary":"File Browser's Uncontrolled Memory Consumption vulnerability can enable DoS attack due to oversized file processing","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:25.942146209Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/filebrowser/filebrowser/v2","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/filebrowser/filebrowser/v2","ranges":["2.38.0"],"fixed":[]}]},{"id":"GO-2025-3811","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GO-2025-3811","summary":"File Browser's Uncontrolled Memory Consumption vulnerability can enable DoS attack due to oversized file processing in github.com/filebrowser/filebrowser","modified":"2026-02-04T04:28:33.157563Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/filebrowser/filebrowser","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/filebrowser/filebrowser","ranges":[">=1.0.0"],"fixed":[]},{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/filebrowser/filebrowser/v2","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/filebrowser/filebrowser/v2","ranges":[">=2.0.0-rc.1"],"fixed":[]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
