A vulnerability that is present starting in version 1.4.4-lts.1 and prior to version 2.0.1 allows an attacker to trigger a Denial of Service (DoS) by sending an upload file request with an empty string field name. This request causes an unhandled exception, leading to a crash of the process. Users should upgrade to `2.0.1` to receive a patch. No known workarounds are available.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":8.7},"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":["CWE-248"],"references":["https://github.com/expressjs/multer/commit/35a3272b611945155e046dd5cef11088587635e9","https://github.com/expressjs/multer/issues/1233","https://github.com/expressjs/multer/pull/1256","https://github.com/expressjs/multer/security/advisories/GHSA-g5hg-p3ph-g8qg"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:02:23.998251710+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2025-48997","score":0.00482,"percentile":0.41585,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-g5hg-p3ph-g8qg","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-g5hg-p3ph-g8qg","summary":"Multer vulnerable to Denial of Service via unhandled exception","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:25.185745509Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"multer","purl":"pkg:npm/multer","ranges":[">=1.4.4-lts.1 <2.0.1"],"fixed":["2.0.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
