{"cve":"CVE-2025-48944","nvd":{"published":"2025-05-30T19:15:30.433","modified":"2026-06-17T09:30:31.710","status":"Analyzed","description":"vLLM is an inference and serving engine for large language models (LLMs). In version 0.8.0 up to but excluding 0.9.0, the vLLM backend used with the /v1/chat/completions OpenAPI endpoint fails to validate unexpected or malformed input in the \"pattern\" and \"type\" fields when the tools functionality is invoked. These inputs are not validated before being compiled or parsed, causing a crash of the inference worker with a single request. The worker will remain down until it is restarted. Version 0.9.0 fixes the issue.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":6.5},"cwes":["CWE-20"],"references":["https://github.com/vllm-project/vllm/pull/17623","https://github.com/vllm-project/vllm/security/advisories/GHSA-vrq3-r879-7m65"],"products":["vllm:vllm"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:02:23.998251710+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2025-48944","score":0.00642,"percentile":0.50786,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-vrq3-r879-7m65","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-vrq3-r879-7m65","summary":"vLLM Tool Schema allows DoS via Malformed pattern and type Fields","modified":"2026-08-07T08:12:14.152190792Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"vllm","purl":"pkg:pypi/vllm","ranges":[">=0.8.0 <0.9.0"],"fixed":["0.9.0"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-2023","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-2023","summary":"vLLM Tool Schema allows DoS via Malformed pattern and type Fields","modified":"2026-07-07T17:48:17.619311221Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"vllm","purl":"pkg:pypi/vllm","ranges":[">=0.8.0 <0.9.0"],"fixed":["0.9.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
