{"cve":"CVE-2025-47281","nvd":{"published":"2025-07-23T21:15:26.397","modified":"2026-06-17T09:27:39.683","status":"Analyzed","description":"Kyverno is a policy engine designed for cloud native platform engineering teams. In versions 1.14.1 and below, a Denial of Service (DoS) vulnerability exists due to improper handling of JMESPath variable substitutions. Attackers with permissions to create or update Kyverno policies can craft expressions using the {{@}} variable combined with a pipe and an invalid JMESPath function (e.g., {{@ | non_existent_function }}). This leads to a nil value being substituted into the policy structure. Subsequent processing by internal functions, specifically getValueAsStringMap, which expect string values, results in a panic due to a type assertion failure (interface {} is nil, not string). This crashes Kyverno worker threads in the admission controller and causes continuous crashes of the reports controller pod. This is fixed in version 1.14.2.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.7},"cwes":["CWE-20","CWE-248"],"references":["https://github.com/kyverno/kyverno/commit/cbd7d4ca24de1c55396fc3295e9fc3215832be7c","https://github.com/kyverno/kyverno/security/advisories/GHSA-r5p3-955p-5ggq","https://github.com/kyverno/kyverno/security/advisories/GHSA-r5p3-955p-5ggq"],"products":["kyverno:kyverno"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:05:46.678065081+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2025-47281","score":0.00555,"percentile":0.46292,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-r5p3-955p-5ggq","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-r5p3-955p-5ggq","summary":"Kyverno's Improper JMESPath Variable Evaluation Lead to Denial of Service","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:26.306794718Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/kyverno/kyverno","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/kyverno/kyverno","ranges":["<1.14.2"],"fixed":["1.14.2"]}]},{"id":"GO-2025-3823","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GO-2025-3823","summary":"Kyverno's Improper JMESPath Variable Evaluation Lead to Denial of Service in github.com/kyverno/kyverno","modified":"2026-02-04T03:00:49.356299Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/kyverno/kyverno","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/kyverno/kyverno","ranges":["<1.14.2"],"fixed":["1.14.2"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
