A vulnerability present starting in version 3.0.5 up to and including version 4.6.3 allows an attacker to impersonate any user during SAML authentication by tampering with a valid SAML response. This can be done by adding attributes to the response. Users are affected specifically when the service provider is using `passport-wsfed-saml2` and a valid SAML Response signed by the Identity Provider can be obtained. Version 4.6.4 contains a fix for the vulnerability.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":8.6},"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":["CWE-287"],"references":["https://github.com/auth0/passport-wsfed-saml2/commit/e5cf3cc2a53748207f7a81bfba9195c8efa94181","https://github.com/auth0/passport-wsfed-saml2/security/advisories/GHSA-8gqj-226h-gm8r"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:01:22.920403922+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2025-46573","score":0.00374,"percentile":0.31385,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-8gqj-226h-gm8r","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-8gqj-226h-gm8r","summary":"Passport-wsfed-saml2 allows SAML Authentication Bypass via Attribute Smuggling","modified":"2025-05-07T15:34:30Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"passport-wsfed-saml2","purl":"pkg:npm/passport-wsfed-saml2","ranges":[">=3.0.5 <4.6.4"],"fixed":["4.6.4"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
