In decrypt_in_place_detached, the decrypted ciphertext (which is the correct ciphertext) is exposed even if the tag is incorrect. This is because in decrypt_inplace in asconcore.rs, tag verification causes an error to be returned with the plaintext contents still in buffer. The vulnerability is fixed in 0.4.3.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:H/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A/VC:L/VI:H/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":5.7},"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":["CWE-347"],"references":["https://github.com/RustCrypto/AEADs/commit/d1d749ba57e38e65b0e037cd744d0b17f7254037","https://github.com/RustCrypto/AEADs/security/advisories/GHSA-r38m-44fw-h886"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:59:48.811064707+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2025-27498","score":0.00125,"percentile":0.02211,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-r38m-44fw-h886","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-r38m-44fw-h886","summary":"AEADs/ascon-aead: Plaintext exposed in decrypt_in_place_detached even on tag verification failure","modified":"2025-03-03T20:42:06.139683Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"ascon_aead","purl":"pkg:cargo/ascon_aead","ranges":["<0.4.3"],"fixed":["0.4.3"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
