Starting in version 1.0.0 and prior to version 6.1.7, a Regular Expression Denial of Service (ReDoS) vulnerability exists in the processing of HTTP request headers. By sending an authorization header containing an excessively long sequence of spaces followed by a newline and \"@\", an attacker can exploit inefficient regular expression processing, leading to excessive resource consumption. This can significantly degrade server performance or cause a denial-of-service (DoS) condition, impacting availability. Version 6.1.7 contains a fix for the issue.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L","score":5.3},"cwes":["CWE-1333"],"references":["https://github.com/octokit/request-error.js/blob/main/src/index.ts","https://github.com/octokit/request-error.js/commit/d558320874a4bc8d356babf1079e6f0056a59b9e","https://github.com/octokit/request-error.js/security/advisories/GHSA-xx4v-prfh-6cgc"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:59:18.731010617+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2025-25289","score":0.00628,"percentile":0.50087,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-xx4v-prfh-6cgc","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-xx4v-prfh-6cgc","summary":"@octokit/request-error has a Regular Expression in index that Leads to ReDoS Vulnerability Due to Catastrophic Backtracking","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:06.165629134Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@octokit/request-error","purl":"pkg:npm/%40octokit/request-error","ranges":[">=1.0.0 <5.1.1"],"fixed":["5.1.1"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@octokit/request-error","purl":"pkg:npm/%40octokit/request-error","ranges":[">=6.0.0 <6.1.7"],"fixed":["6.1.7"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
