When a special crafted packet is received via SslHandler it doesn't correctly handle validation of such a packet in all cases which can lead to a native crash. Version 4.1.118.Final contains a patch. As workaround its possible to either disable the usage of the native SSLEngine or change the code manually.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-20"],"references":["https://github.com/netty/netty/commit/87f40725155b2f89adfde68c7732f97c153676c4","https://github.com/netty/netty/security/advisories/GHSA-4g8c-wm8x-jfhw","https://security.netapp.com/advisory/ntap-20250221-0005/","https://www.vicarius.io/vsociety/posts/cve-2025-24970-netty-vulnerability-detection","https://www.vicarius.io/vsociety/posts/cve-2025-24970-netty-vulnerability-mitigation"],"products":["netapp:active_iq_unified_manager","netapp:oncommand_insight","netty:netty"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:59:18.731010617+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2025-24970","score":0.02192,"percentile":0.82449,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-4g8c-wm8x-jfhw","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-4g8c-wm8x-jfhw","summary":"SslHandler doesn't correctly validate packets which can lead to native crash when using native SSLEngine","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:22.400091931Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"io.netty:netty-handler","purl":"pkg:maven/io.netty/netty-handler","ranges":[">=4.1.91.Final <4.1.118.Final"],"fixed":["4.1.118.Final"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
