Via a type confusion bug in versions of the CPython interpreter starting in 3.11 and prior to 3.13.2 when using `try/except*`, RestrictedPython starting in version 6.0 and prior to version 8.0 could be bypassed. The issue is patched in version 8.0 of RestrictedPython by removing support for `try/except*` clauses. No known workarounds are available.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:H/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:L","score":7.9},"cwes":["CWE-843"],"references":["https://github.com/zopefoundation/RestrictedPython/commit/48a92c5bb617a647cffd0dadd4d5cfe626bcdb2f","https://github.com/zopefoundation/RestrictedPython/security/advisories/GHSA-gmj9-h825-chq2"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:58:41.599736885+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2025-22153","score":0.004,"percentile":0.3424,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-gmj9-h825-chq2","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-gmj9-h825-chq2","summary":"try/except* clauses could allow bypass RestrictedPython via type confusion bug in the CPython interpreter","modified":"2026-07-07T17:57:15.763423383Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"restrictedpython","purl":"pkg:pypi/restrictedpython","ranges":[">=6.0 <8.0"],"fixed":["8.0"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-1874","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-1874","summary":"try/except* clauses could allow bypass RestrictedPython via type confusion bug in the CPython interpreter","modified":"2026-07-07T17:46:36.748663368Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"restrictedpython","purl":"pkg:pypi/restrictedpython","ranges":[">=6.0 <8.0"],"fixed":["8.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
