{"cve":"CVE-2024-8769","nvd":{"published":"2025-03-20T10:15:44.220","modified":"2026-06-17T08:23:16.140","status":"Modified","description":"A vulnerability in the `LockManager.release_locks` function in aimhubio/aim (commit bb76afe) allows for arbitrary file deletion through relative path traversal. The `run_hash` parameter, which is user-controllable, is concatenated without normalization as part of a path used to specify file deletion. This vulnerability is exposed through the `Repo._close_run()` method, which is accessible via the tracking server instruction API. As a result, an attacker can exploit this to delete any arbitrary file on the machine running the tracking server.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:H","score":9.1},"cwes":["CWE-22"],"references":["https://huntr.com/bounties/59d3472f-f581-4beb-a090-afd36a00ecf7","https://huntr.com/bounties/59d3472f-f581-4beb-a090-afd36a00ecf7"],"products":["aimstack:aim"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:00:17.429720821+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2024-8769","score":0.00927,"percentile":0.60508,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-4qcx-jx49-6qrh","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-4qcx-jx49-6qrh","summary":"Aim path traversal in LockManager.release_locks","modified":"2026-10-26T21:15:03.699329750Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"aim","purl":"pkg:pypi/aim","ranges":[">=3.15.0 <=3.27.0"],"fixed":[]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-258","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-258","summary":"Aim path traversal in LockManager.release_locks","modified":"2026-07-01T20:22:47.672031Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"aim","purl":"pkg:pypi/aim","ranges":[">=3.15.0 <=3.27.0"],"fixed":[]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
