An attacker can exploit this flaw by keeping a TCP connection open indefinitely, causing the server to become unresponsive and resulting in other DNS queries timing out. This issue prevents legitimate users from accessing DNS services, thereby disrupting normal operations and causing service downtime.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-400"],"references":["https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2025:7094","https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2024-8418","https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2309683","https://github.com/containers/aardvark-dns/issues/500","https://github.com/containers/aardvark-dns/pull/503"],"products":["containers:aardvark-dns"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-22T16:41:11.231219466+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2024-8418","score":0.00807,"percentile":0.5657,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-g5jh-57wm-p79m","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-g5jh-57wm-p79m","summary":"Missing connection timeout in Aardvark-dns","modified":"2025-05-14T19:15:26Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"aardvark-dns","purl":"pkg:cargo/aardvark-dns","ranges":[">=1.12.0 <1.12.2"],"fixed":["1.12.2"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
