{"cve":"CVE-2024-53859","nvd":{"published":"2024-11-27T22:15:05.673","modified":"2026-06-17T08:09:25.660","status":"Analyzed","description":"go-gh is a Go module for interacting with the `gh` utility and the GitHub API from the command line. A security vulnerability has been identified in `go-gh` that could leak authentication tokens intended for GitHub hosts to non-GitHub hosts when within a codespace. `go-gh` sources authentication tokens from different environment variables depending on the host involved: 1. `GITHUB_TOKEN`, `GH_TOKEN` for GitHub.com and ghe.com and 2. `GITHUB_ENTERPRISE_TOKEN`, `GH_ENTERPRISE_TOKEN` for GitHub Enterprise Server. Prior to version `2.11.1`, `auth.TokenForHost` could source a token from the `GITHUB_TOKEN` environment variable for a host other than GitHub.com or ghe.com when within a codespace. In version `2.11.1`, `auth.TokenForHost` will only source a token from the `GITHUB_TOKEN` environment variable for GitHub.com or ghe.com hosts. Successful exploitation could send authentication token to an unintended host. This issue has been addressed in version 2.11.1 and all users are advised to upgrade. Users are also advised to regenerate authentication tokens and to review their personal security log and any relevant audit logs for actions associated with their account or enterprise.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-200"],"references":["https://docs.github.com/en/apps/using-github-apps/reviewing-and-revoking-authorization-of-github-apps#reviewing-your-authorized-github-apps","https://docs.github.com/en/authentication/keeping-your-account-and-data-secure/reviewing-your-security-log","https://docs.github.com/en/enterprise-cloud@latest/admin/monitoring-activity-in-your-enterprise/reviewing-audit-logs-for-your-enterprise/identifying-audit-log-events-performed-by-an-access-token","https://docs.github.com/en/enterprise-cloud@latest/authentication/keeping-your-account-and-data-secure/managing-your-personal-access-tokens","https://github.com/cli/go-gh/blob/71770357e0cb12867d3e3e288854c0aa09d440b7/pkg/auth/auth.go#L73-L77"],"products":["cli:go-gh"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:57:34.731061660+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2024-53859","score":0.00531,"percentile":0.44949,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-55v3-xh23-96gh","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-55v3-xh23-96gh","summary":"`auth.TokenForHost` violates GitHub host security boundary when sourcing authentication token within a codespace","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:20.344866743Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/cli/go-gh/v2","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/cli/go-gh/v2","ranges":["<2.11.1"],"fixed":["2.11.1"]},{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/cli/go-gh","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/cli/go-gh","ranges":["all versions"],"fixed":[]}]},{"id":"GO-2024-3295","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GO-2024-3295","summary":"Violation of GitHub host security boundary when sourcing authentication token within a codespace in github.com/cli/go-gh","modified":"2026-02-04T03:36:21.110984Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/cli/go-gh","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/cli/go-gh","ranges":["all versions"],"fixed":[]},{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/cli/go-gh/v2","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/cli/go-gh/v2","ranges":["<2.11.1"],"fixed":["2.11.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
