{"cve":"CVE-2024-53261","nvd":{"published":"2024-11-25T20:15:10.217","modified":"2026-06-17T08:08:42.653","status":"Analyzed","description":"SvelteKit is a framework for rapidly developing robust, performant web applications using Svelte. \"Unsanitized input from *the request URL* flows into `end`, where it is used to render an HTML page returned to the user. This may result in a Cross-Site Scripting attack (XSS).\" The files `packages/kit/src/exports/vite/dev/index.js` and `packages/kit/src/exports/vite/utils.js` both contain user controllable data which under specific conditions may flow to dev mode pages. There is little to no expected impact. The Vite development is not exposed to the network by default and even if someone were able to trick a developer into executing an XSS against themselves, a development database should not have any sensitive data. None the less this issue has been addressed in version 2.8.3 and all users are advised to upgrade.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:H/AT:P/PR:L/UI:A/VC:L/VI:L/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":2.0},"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N","score":5.4},"cwes":["CWE-79"],"references":["https://github.com/sveltejs/kit/commit/d338d4635a7fd947ba5112df6ee632c4a0979438","https://github.com/sveltejs/kit/security/advisories/GHSA-rjjv-87mx-6x3h"],"products":["svelte:sveltekit"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:57:34.731061660+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2024-53261","score":0.0033,"percentile":0.2619,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-rjjv-87mx-6x3h","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-rjjv-87mx-6x3h","summary":"@sveltejs/kit vulnerable to XSS on dev mode 404 page","modified":"2025-01-22T20:54:21Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"@sveltejs/kit","purl":"pkg:npm/%40sveltejs/kit","ranges":["<2.8.3"],"fixed":["2.8.3"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
