{"cve":"CVE-2024-49769","nvd":{"published":"2024-10-29T15:15:12.030","modified":"2026-06-17T08:00:24.887","status":"Modified","description":"Waitress is a Web Server Gateway Interface server for Python 2 and 3. When a remote client closes the connection before waitress has had the opportunity to call getpeername() waitress won't correctly clean up the connection leading to the main thread attempting to write to a socket that no longer exists, but not removing it from the list of sockets to attempt to process. This leads to a busy-loop calling the write function. A remote attacker could run waitress out of available sockets with very little resources required. Waitress 3.0.1 contains fixes that remove the race condition.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-772"],"references":["https://github.com/Pylons/waitress/commit/1ae4e894c9f76543bee06584001583fc6fa8c95c","https://github.com/Pylons/waitress/issues/418","https://github.com/Pylons/waitress/pull/435","https://github.com/Pylons/waitress/security/advisories/GHSA-3f84-rpwh-47g6","https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2024/11/msg00012.html"],"products":["agendaless:waitress"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:56:33.105311382+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2024-49769","score":0.01377,"percentile":0.72074,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-3f84-rpwh-47g6","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-3f84-rpwh-47g6","summary":"Waitress vulnerable to DoS leading to high CPU usage/resource exhaustion","modified":"2025-01-21T18:19:46.257061Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"waitress","purl":"pkg:pypi/waitress","ranges":["<3.0.1"],"fixed":["3.0.1"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2024-211","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2024-211","summary":"","modified":"2025-01-19T19:56:44.597517Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"waitress","purl":"pkg:pypi/waitress","ranges":["<3.0.1"],"fixed":["3.0.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
