An arbitrary file write vulnerability accessible via the upload method of the MediaController allows authenticated users to write arbitrary files to any location on the web server Camaleon CMS is running on (depending on the permissions of the underlying filesystem). E.g. This can lead to a delayed remote code execution in case an attacker is able to write a Ruby file into the config/initializers/ subfolder of the Ruby on Rails application. This issue has been addressed in release version 2.8.2. Users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":9.9},"cwes":["CWE-22","CWE-74"],"references":["https://codeql.github.com/codeql-query-help/ruby/rb-path-injection","https://github.com/owen2345/camaleon-cms/security/advisories/GHSA-wmjg-vqhv-q5p5","https://owasp.org/www-community/attacks/Path_Traversal","https://securitylab.github.com/advisories/GHSL-2024-182_GHSL-2024-186_Camaleon_CMS","https://www.reddit.com/r/rails/comments/1exwtdm/camaleon_cms_281_has_been_released"],"products":["tuzitio:camaleon_cms"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:54:38.012257375+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2024-46986","score":0.37106,"percentile":0.98518,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-wmjg-vqhv-q5p5","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-wmjg-vqhv-q5p5","summary":"Camaleon CMS affected by arbitrary file write to RCE (GHSL-2024-182)","modified":"2025-04-17T23:22:43.947488Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"RubyGems","name":"camaleon_cms","purl":"pkg:gem/camaleon_cms","ranges":[">=2.8.0 <2.8.1"],"fixed":["2.8.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
