Prior to 0.7.5, it is possible for a user who can commit files to a repository hosted by Soft Serve to execute arbitrary code via environment manipulation and Git. The issue is that Soft Serve passes all environment variables given by the client to git subprocesses. This includes environment variables that control program execution, such as LD_PRELOAD. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.7.5.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N","score":8.1},"cwes":["CWE-78"],"references":["https://github.com/charmbracelet/soft-serve/commit/4daebdd422a6ba8c04162d023f8be355a8fe3184","https://github.com/charmbracelet/soft-serve/security/advisories/GHSA-m445-w3xr-vp2f"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:53:51.317825789+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2024-41956","score":0.00509,"percentile":0.43489,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-m445-w3xr-vp2f","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-m445-w3xr-vp2f","summary":"soft-serve vulnerable to arbitrary code execution by crafting git-lfs requests","modified":"2024-08-07T19:26:34Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/charmbracelet/soft-serve","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/charmbracelet/soft-serve","ranges":["<0.7.5"],"fixed":["0.7.5"]}]},{"id":"GO-2024-3019","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GO-2024-3019","summary":"soft-serve vulnerable to arbitrary code execution by crafting git-lfs requests in github.com/charmbracelet/soft-serve","modified":"2026-03-03T04:55:36.530648Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/charmbracelet/soft-serve","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/charmbracelet/soft-serve","ranges":["<0.7.5"],"fixed":["0.7.5"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
