{"cve":"CVE-2024-4068","nvd":{"published":"2024-05-14T15:42:48.660","modified":"2026-06-17T08:01:02.583","status":"Analyzed","description":"The NPM package `braces`, versions prior to 3.0.3, fails to limit the number of characters it can handle, which could lead to Memory Exhaustion. In `lib/parse.js,` if a malicious user sends \"imbalanced braces\" as input, the parsing will enter a loop, which will cause the program to start allocating heap memory without freeing it at any moment of the loop. Eventually, the JavaScript heap limit is reached, and the program will crash.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-1050","CWE-400"],"references":["https://devhub.checkmarx.com/cve-details/CVE-2024-4068/","https://github.com/micromatch/braces/commit/415d660c3002d1ab7e63dbf490c9851da80596ff","https://github.com/micromatch/braces/issues/35","https://github.com/micromatch/braces/pull/37","https://github.com/micromatch/braces/pull/40"],"products":["jonschlinkert:braces"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:49:23.840078609+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2024-4068","score":0.01471,"percentile":0.73774,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-grv7-fg5c-xmjg","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-grv7-fg5c-xmjg","summary":"Uncontrolled resource consumption in braces","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:00.374713008Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"braces","purl":"pkg:npm/braces","ranges":["<3.0.3"],"fixed":["3.0.3"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
