{"cve":"CVE-2024-4067","nvd":{"published":"2024-05-14T15:42:47.947","modified":"2026-06-17T08:01:02.453","status":"Analyzed","description":"The NPM package `micromatch` prior to 4.0.8 is vulnerable to Regular Expression Denial of Service (ReDoS). The vulnerability occurs in `micromatch.braces()` in `index.js` because the pattern `.*` will greedily match anything. By passing a malicious payload, the pattern matching will keep backtracking to the input while it doesn't find the closing bracket. As the input size increases, the consumption time will also increase until it causes the application to hang or slow down. There was a merged fix but further testing shows the issue persists. This issue should be mitigated by using a safe pattern that won't start backtracking the regular expression due to greedy matching. This issue was fixed in version 4.0.8.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L","score":5.3},"cwes":["CWE-1333"],"references":["https://advisory.checkmarx.net/advisory/CVE-2024-4067/","https://devhub.checkmarx.com/cve-details/CVE-2024-4067/","https://github.com/micromatch/micromatch/commit/03aa8052171e878897eee5d7bb2ae0ae83ec2ade","https://github.com/micromatch/micromatch/pull/266","https://github.com/micromatch/micromatch/releases/tag/4.0.8"],"products":["jonschlinkert:micromatch"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:49:23.840078609+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2024-4067","score":0.01429,"percentile":0.73001,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-952p-6rrq-rcjv","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-952p-6rrq-rcjv","summary":"Regular Expression Denial of Service (ReDoS) in micromatch","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:13.524150483Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"micromatch","purl":"pkg:npm/micromatch","ranges":["<4.0.8"],"fixed":["4.0.8"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
