{"cve":"CVE-2024-40630","nvd":{"published":"2024-07-15T20:15:05.243","modified":"2026-06-17T07:46:12.253","status":"Deferred","description":"OpenImageIO is a toolset for reading, writing, and manipulating image files of any image file format relevant to VFX / animation via a format-agnostic API with a feature set, scalability, and robustness needed for feature film production. In affected versions there is a bug in the heif input functionality of OpenImageIO. Specifically, in `HeifInput::seek_subimage()`. In the worst case, this can lead to an information disclosure vulnerability, particularly for programs that directly use the `ImageInput` APIs. This bug has been addressed in commit `0a2dcb4c` which is included in the 2.5.13.1 release. Users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this issue.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N","score":4.3},"cwes":["CWE-125"],"references":["https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/OpenImageIO/blob/7c486a1121a4bf71d50ff555fab2770294b748d7/src/heif.imageio/heifinput.cpp#L250","https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/OpenImageIO/commit/0a2dcb4cf2c3fd4825a146cd3ad929d9d8305ce3","https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/OpenImageIO/security/advisories/GHSA-jjm9-9m4m-c8p2","https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/OpenImageIO/blob/7c486a1121a4bf71d50ff555fab2770294b748d7/src/heif.imageio/heifinput.cpp#L250","https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/OpenImageIO/commit/0a2dcb4cf2c3fd4825a146cd3ad929d9d8305ce3"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:52:42.518321223+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2024-40630","score":0.00448,"percentile":0.38973,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
