When SoftEtherVPN is deployed with L2TP enabled on a device, it introduces the possibility of the host being used for amplification/reflection traffic generation because it will respond to every packet with two response packets that are larger than the request packet size. These sorts of techniques are used by external actors who generate spoofed source IPs to target a destination on the internet. This vulnerability has been patched in version 5.02.5185.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L","score":5.3},"cwes":["CWE-400"],"references":["https://github.com/SoftEtherVPN/SoftEtherVPN/commit/c2a7aa548137dc80c6aafdc645cf4dc34e0dc764","https://github.com/SoftEtherVPN/SoftEtherVPN/releases/tag/5.02.5185","https://github.com/SoftEtherVPN/SoftEtherVPN/security/advisories/GHSA-j35p-p8pj-vqxq","https://github.com/SoftEtherVPN/SoftEtherVPN/commit/c2a7aa548137dc80c6aafdc645cf4dc34e0dc764","https://github.com/SoftEtherVPN/SoftEtherVPN/releases/tag/5.02.5185"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:52:00.836172422+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2024-38520","score":0.00514,"percentile":0.4383,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
