{"cve":"CVE-2024-38358","nvd":{"published":"2024-06-19T20:15:11.990","modified":"2026-06-17T07:39:59.320","status":"Deferred","description":"Wasmer is a web assembly (wasm) Runtime supporting WASIX, WASI and Emscripten. If the preopened directory has a symlink pointing outside, WASI programs can traverse the symlink and access host filesystem if the caller sets both `oflags::creat` and `rights::fd_write`. Programs can also crash the runtime by creating a symlink pointing outside with `path_symlink` and `path_open`ing the link. This issue has been addressed in commit `b9483d022` which has been included in release version 4.3.2. Users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N","score":2.9},"cwes":["CWE-22"],"references":["https://github.com/wasmerio/wasmer/commit/b9483d022c602b994103f78ecfe46f017f8ac662","https://github.com/wasmerio/wasmer/security/advisories/GHSA-55f3-3qvg-8pv5","https://github.com/wasmerio/wasmer/commit/b9483d022c602b994103f78ecfe46f017f8ac662","https://github.com/wasmerio/wasmer/security/advisories/GHSA-55f3-3qvg-8pv5"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:52:00.836172422+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2024-38358","score":0.002,"percentile":0.09904,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-55f3-3qvg-8pv5","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-55f3-3qvg-8pv5","summary":"Symlink bypasses filesystem sandbox","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:14.890753117Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"wasmer","purl":"pkg:cargo/wasmer","ranges":["<=4.3.1"],"fixed":[]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
