When uncompressing certain data, Snappy tries to read outside the bounds of the given byte arrays. Because Snappy uses the JDK class `sun.misc.Unsafe` to speed up memory access, no additional bounds checks are performed and this has similar security consequences as out-of-bounds access in C or C++, namely it can lead to non-deterministic behavior or crash the JVM. iq80 Snappy is not actively maintained anymore. As quick fix users can upgrade to version 0.5.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L","score":5.3},"cwes":["CWE-125"],"references":["https://github.com/dain/snappy/security/advisories/GHSA-8wh2-6qhj-h7j9","https://github.com/dain/snappy/security/advisories/GHSA-8wh2-6qhj-h7j9"],"products":["dain:snappy"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:51:20.603330631+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2024-36124","score":0.00487,"percentile":0.41937,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-8wh2-6qhj-h7j9","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-8wh2-6qhj-h7j9","summary":"iq80 Snappy out-of-bounds read when uncompressing data, leading to JVM crash","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:15.013963189Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.iq80.snappy:snappy","purl":"pkg:maven/org.iq80.snappy/snappy","ranges":["<0.5"],"fixed":["0.5"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
