{"cve":"CVE-2024-34346","nvd":{"published":"2024-05-07T21:15:09.270","modified":"2026-06-17T07:33:13.230","status":"Analyzed","description":"Deno is a JavaScript, TypeScript, and WebAssembly runtime with secure defaults. The Deno sandbox may be unexpectedly weakened by allowing file read/write access to privileged files in various locations on Unix and Windows platforms. For example, reading `/proc/self/environ` may provide access equivalent to `--allow-env`, and writing `/proc/self/mem` may provide access equivalent to `--allow-all`. Users who grant read and write access to the entire filesystem may not realize that these access to these files may have additional, unintended consequences. The documentation did not reflect that this practice should be undertaken to increase the strength of the security sandbox. Users who run code with `--allow-read` or `--allow-write` may unexpectedly end up granting additional permissions via file-system operations. Deno 1.43 and above require explicit `--allow-all` access to read or write `/etc`, `/dev` on unix platform (as well as `/proc` and `/sys` on linux platforms), and any path starting with `\\\\` on Windows.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:A/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":9.0},"cwes":["CWE-863"],"references":["https://github.com/denoland/deno/security/advisories/GHSA-23rx-c3g5-hv9w","https://github.com/denoland/deno/security/advisories/GHSA-23rx-c3g5-hv9w"],"products":["deno:deno"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:49:23.840078609+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2024-34346","score":0.00368,"percentile":0.30723,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-23rx-c3g5-hv9w","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-23rx-c3g5-hv9w","summary":"Deno permission escalation vulnerability via open of privileged files with missing `--deny` flag","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:12.879631430Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"deno","purl":"pkg:cargo/deno","ranges":["<1.43.1"],"fixed":["1.43.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
