This vulnerability allows an attacker to manipulate file paths within tar archives to overwrite arbitrary files on the target system. Exploitation of this vulnerability could lead to remote code execution, privilege escalation, data theft or manipulation, and denial of service. The vulnerability is due to improper validation of file paths during the extraction of tar files, as demonstrated in multiple occurrences within the library's codebase, including but not limited to the files_util.py and extract_imagenet.py scripts.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":8.8},"cwes":["CWE-22","CWE-29"],"references":["https://github.com/deepjavalibrary/djl/commit/5235be508cec9e8cb6f496a4ed2fa40e4f62c370","https://huntr.com/bounties/b064bd2f-bf6e-4fc0-898e-7d02a9b97e24","https://github.com/deepjavalibrary/djl/commit/5235be508cec9e8cb6f496a4ed2fa40e4f62c370","https://huntr.com/bounties/b064bd2f-bf6e-4fc0-898e-7d02a9b97e24"],"products":["djl:deep_java_library"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:51:20.603330631+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2024-2914","score":0.00917,"percentile":0.60216,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
