{"cve":"CVE-2024-28246","nvd":{"published":"2024-03-25T20:15:08.580","modified":"2026-06-17T07:21:15.420","status":"Analyzed","description":"KaTeX is a JavaScript library for TeX math rendering on the web. Code that uses KaTeX's `trust` option, specifically that provides a function to blacklist certain URL protocols, can be fooled by URLs in malicious inputs that use uppercase characters in the protocol. In particular, this can allow for malicious input to generate `javascript:` links in the output, even if the `trust` function tries to forbid this protocol via `trust: (context) => context.protocol !== 'javascript'`. Upgrade to KaTeX v0.16.10 to remove this vulnerability.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N","score":5.4},"cwes":["CWE-184","CWE-697"],"references":["https://github.com/KaTeX/KaTeX/commit/fc5af64183a3ceb9be9d1c23a275999a728593de","https://github.com/KaTeX/KaTeX/security/advisories/GHSA-3wc5-fcw2-2329","https://github.com/KaTeX/KaTeX/commit/fc5af64183a3ceb9be9d1c23a275999a728593de","https://github.com/KaTeX/KaTeX/security/advisories/GHSA-3wc5-fcw2-2329"],"products":["katex:katex"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:47:51.568503435+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2024-28246","score":0.00406,"percentile":0.34886,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-3wc5-fcw2-2329","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-3wc5-fcw2-2329","summary":"KaTeX missing normalization of the protocol in URLs allows bypassing forbidden protocols","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:09.938109578Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"katex","purl":"pkg:npm/katex","ranges":[">=0.11.0 <0.16.10"],"fixed":["0.16.10"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
