{"cve":"CVE-2024-25112","nvd":{"published":"2024-02-12T23:15:08.853","modified":"2026-06-17T07:15:31.833","status":"Modified","description":"Exiv2 is a command-line utility and C++ library for reading, writing, deleting, and modifying the metadata of image files. A denial-of-service was found in Exiv2 version v0.28.1: an unbounded recursion can cause Exiv2 to crash by exhausting the stack. The vulnerable function, `QuickTimeVideo::multipleEntriesDecoder`, was new in v0.28.0, so Exiv2 versions before v0.28 are _not_ affected. The denial-of-service is triggered when Exiv2 is used to read the metadata of a crafted video file. This bug is fixed in version v0.28.2. Users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":5.0},"cwes":["CWE-674","CWE-400"],"references":["https://github.com/Exiv2/exiv2/pull/2337","https://github.com/Exiv2/exiv2/security/advisories/GHSA-crmj-qh74-2r36","https://github.com/Exiv2/exiv2/pull/2337","https://github.com/Exiv2/exiv2/security/advisories/GHSA-crmj-qh74-2r36"],"products":["exiv2:exiv2"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:45:59.823092188+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2024-25112","score":0.0022,"percentile":0.12651,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-crmj-qh74-2r36","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-crmj-qh74-2r36","summary":"Exiv2 has a denial of service due to unbounded recursion in QuickTimeVideo::multipleEntriesDecoder","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:56.019762589Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"exiv2","purl":"pkg:pypi/exiv2","ranges":[">=0.16.0 <0.16.1"],"fixed":["0.16.1"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2024-107","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2024-107","summary":"","modified":"2024-10-23T00:00:00Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"exiv2","purl":"pkg:pypi/exiv2","ranges":[">=0.16.0 <0.16.1"],"fixed":["0.16.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
