{"cve":"CVE-2024-23833","nvd":{"published":"2024-02-12T21:15:08.760","modified":"2026-06-17T07:13:42.150","status":"Modified","description":"OpenRefine is a free, open source power tool for working with messy data and improving it. A jdbc attack vulnerability exists in OpenRefine(version<=3.7.7) where an attacker may construct a JDBC query which may read files on the host filesystem. Due to the newer MySQL driver library in the latest version of OpenRefine (8.0.30), there is no associated deserialization utilization point, so original code execution cannot be achieved, but attackers can use this vulnerability to read sensitive files on the target server. This issue has been addressed in version 3.7.8. Users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-863","CWE-22"],"references":["https://github.com/OpenRefine/OpenRefine/commit/41ccf574847d856e22488a7c0987ad8efa12a84a","https://github.com/OpenRefine/OpenRefine/security/advisories/GHSA-6p92-qfqf-qwx4","https://github.com/OpenRefine/OpenRefine/commit/41ccf574847d856e22488a7c0987ad8efa12a84a","https://github.com/OpenRefine/OpenRefine/security/advisories/GHSA-6p92-qfqf-qwx4"],"products":["openrefine:openrefine"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:45:59.823092188+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2024-23833","score":0.00999,"percentile":0.6278,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-6p92-qfqf-qwx4","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-6p92-qfqf-qwx4","summary":"OpenRefine JDBC Attack Vulnerability","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:09.835396021Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.openrefine:database","purl":"pkg:maven/org.openrefine/database","ranges":["<3.7.8"],"fixed":["3.7.8"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
