This allows a malicious user with a valid API key for a remote cluster configured to use the new Remote Cluster Security to read arbitrary documents from any index on the remote cluster, and only if they use the Elasticsearch custom transport protocol to issue requests with the target index ID, the shard ID and the document ID. None of Elasticsearch REST API endpoints are affected by this issue.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":6.5},"cwes":["CWE-863"],"references":["https://discuss.elastic.co/t/elasticsearch-8-13-0-security-update-esa-2024-07/356315","https://discuss.elastic.co/t/elasticsearch-8-13-0-security-update-esa-2024-07/356315"],"products":["elastic:elasticsearch"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:47:51.568503435+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2024-23451","score":0.00492,"percentile":0.42331,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-r3hx-qfh5-r9m7","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-r3hx-qfh5-r9m7","summary":"Elasticsearch Incorrect Authorization vulnerability","modified":"2026-08-07T08:12:32.776616835Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.elasticsearch:elasticsearch","purl":"pkg:maven/org.elasticsearch/elasticsearch","ranges":[">=8.10.0 <8.13.0"],"fixed":["8.13.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
