An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a large number of VPN authentication requests to an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to exhaust resources, resulting in a DoS of the RAVPN service on the affected device. Depending on the impact of the attack, a reload of the device may be required to restore the RAVPN service. Services that are not related to VPN are not affected.\r\n\r Cisco Talos discussed these attacks in the blog post Large-scale brute-force activity targeting VPNs, SSH services with commonly used login credentials.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:N/I:N/A:L","score":5.8},"cwes":["CWE-772"],"references":["https://sec.cloudapps.cisco.com/security/center/content/CiscoSecurityAdvisory/cisco-sa-asaftd-bf-dos-vDZhLqrW","https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog?field_cve=CVE-2024-20481"],"products":["cisco:adaptive_security_appliance_software","cisco:secure_firewall_threat_defense"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:56:33.105311382+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2024-20481","score":0.15874,"percentile":0.96887,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":{"cve":"CVE-2024-20481","date_added":"2024-10-24","due_date":"2024-11-14","vendor":"Cisco","product":"Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) and Firepower Threat Defense (FTD)","known_ransomware":false},"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
