{"cve":"CVE-2024-1635","nvd":{"published":"2024-02-19T22:15:48.647","modified":"2026-10-07T22:17:01.100","status":"Modified","description":"A vulnerability was found in Undertow. This vulnerability impacts a server that supports the wildfly-http-client protocol. Whenever a malicious user opens and closes a connection with the HTTP port of the server and then closes the connection immediately, the server will end with both memory and open file limits exhausted at some point, depending on the amount of memory available. \r\n\r\nAt HTTP upgrade to remoting, the WriteTimeoutStreamSinkConduit leaks connections if RemotingConnection is closed by Remoting ServerConnectionOpenListener. Because the remoting connection originates in Undertow as part of the HTTP upgrade, there is an external layer to the remoting connection. This connection is unaware of the outermost layer when closing the connection during the connection opening procedure. Hence, the Undertow WriteTimeoutStreamSinkConduit is not notified of the closed connection in this scenario. Because WriteTimeoutStreamSinkConduit creates a timeout task, the whole dependency tree leaks via that task, which is added to XNIO WorkerThread. So, the workerThread points to the Undertow conduit, which contains the connections and causes the leak.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-400"],"references":["https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2024:1674","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2024:1675","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2024:1676","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2024:1677","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2024:1860"],"products":["netapp:active_iq_unified_manager","netapp:oncommand_workflow_automation","redhat:fuse","redhat:integration_camel_for_spring_boot","redhat:jboss_enterprise_application_platform","redhat:openshift_container_platform","redhat:openshift_container_platform_for_linuxone","redhat:openshift_container_platform_for_power","redhat:single_sign-on"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:45:59.823092188+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2024-1635","score":0.04572,"percentile":0.91552,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-w6qf-42m7-vh68","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-w6qf-42m7-vh68","summary":"Undertow Uncontrolled Resource Consumption Vulnerability","modified":"2025-04-28T16:00:35.045525Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"io.undertow:undertow-core","purl":"pkg:maven/io.undertow/undertow-core","ranges":[">=2.3.0.Final <2.3.12.Final"],"fixed":["2.3.12.Final"]},{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"io.undertow:undertow-core","purl":"pkg:maven/io.undertow/undertow-core","ranges":["<2.2.31.Final"],"fixed":["2.2.31.Final"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
