{"cve":"CVE-2024-12087","nvd":{"published":"2025-01-14T18:15:25.467","modified":"2026-10-21T21:17:27.177","status":"Modified","description":"A path traversal vulnerability exists in rsync. It stems from behavior enabled by the `--inc-recursive` option, a default-enabled option for many client options and can be enabled by the server even if not explicitly enabled by the client. When using the `--inc-recursive` option, a lack of proper symlink verification coupled with deduplication checks occurring on a per-file-list basis could allow a server to write files outside of the client's intended destination directory. A malicious server could write malicious files to arbitrary locations named after valid directories/paths on the client.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-22"],"references":["https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2025:6470","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2025:23154","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2025:23235","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2025:23407","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2025:23415"],"products":["almalinux:almalinux","archlinux:arch_linux","gentoo:linux","nixos:nixos","redhat:enterprise_linux","redhat:enterprise_linux_eus","redhat:enterprise_linux_for_arm_64","redhat:enterprise_linux_for_arm_64_eus","redhat:enterprise_linux_for_ibm_z_systems","redhat:enterprise_linux_for_ibm_z_systems_eus","redhat:enterprise_linux_for_power_little_endian","redhat:enterprise_linux_for_power_little_endian_eus","redhat:enterprise_linux_server_aus","redhat:enterprise_linux_server_for_power_little_endian_update_services_for_sap_solutions","redhat:enterprise_linux_update_services_for_sap_solutions","samba:rsync","suse:suse_linux","tritondatacenter:smartos"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-22T16:41:11.231219466+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2024-12087","score":0.02259,"percentile":0.82846,"date":"2026-10-25"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
