This happens if FS_IOC_ENABLE_VERITY is called\non a fd opened with access mode 3, which means \"ioctl access only\".\n\nArguably, FS_IOC_ENABLE_VERITY should work on ioctl-only fds. But\nioctl-only fds are a weird Linux extension that is rarely used and that\nfew people even know about. (The documentation for FS_IOC_ENABLE_VERITY\neven specifically says it requires O_RDONLY.) It's probably not\nworthwhile to make the ioctl internally open a new fd just to handle\nthis case. Thus, just reject the ioctl on such fds for now.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":5.5},"cwes":[],"references":["https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/04839139213cf60d4c5fc792214a08830e294ff8","https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/85c039cff3c359967cafe90443c02321e950b216"],"products":["linux:linux_kernel"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:08:41.295252406+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2023-53172","score":0.0014,"percentile":0.03329,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
