{"cve":"CVE-2023-48219","nvd":{"published":"2023-11-15T19:15:07.857","modified":"2026-06-17T06:33:45.917","status":"Modified","description":"TinyMCE is an open source rich text editor. A mutation cross-site scripting (mXSS) vulnerability was discovered in TinyMCE’s core undo/redo functionality and other APIs and plugins. Text nodes within specific parents are not escaped upon serialization according to the HTML standard. If such text nodes contain a special character reserved as an internal marker, they can be combined with other HTML patterns to form malicious snippets. These snippets pass the initial sanitisation layer when the content is parsed into the editor body, but can trigger XSS when the special internal marker is removed from the content and re-parsed. his vulnerability has been patched in TinyMCE versions 6.7.3 and 5.10.9. Users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N","score":6.1},"cwes":["CWE-79"],"references":["https://github.com/tinymce/tinymce/security/advisories/GHSA-v626-r774-j7f8","https://tiny.cloud/docs/release-notes/release-notes5109/","https://tiny.cloud/docs/tinymce/6/6.7.3-release-notes/","https://github.com/tinymce/tinymce/security/advisories/GHSA-v626-r774-j7f8","https://tiny.cloud/docs/release-notes/release-notes5109/"],"products":["tiny:tinymce"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:42:07.670898610+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2023-48219","score":0.00715,"percentile":0.53765,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-v626-r774-j7f8","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-v626-r774-j7f8","summary":"TinyMCE vulnerable to mutation Cross-site Scripting via special characters in unescaped text nodes","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:00.193358264Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"tinymce","purl":"pkg:npm/tinymce","ranges":["<5.10.9"],"fixed":["5.10.9"]},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"tinymce","purl":"pkg:npm/tinymce","ranges":[">=6.0.0 <6.7.3"],"fixed":["6.7.3"]},{"ecosystem":"Packagist","name":"tinymce/tinymce","purl":"pkg:composer/tinymce/tinymce","ranges":["<5.10.9"],"fixed":["5.10.9"]},{"ecosystem":"Packagist","name":"tinymce/tinymce","purl":"pkg:composer/tinymce/tinymce","ranges":[">=6.0.0 <6.7.3"],"fixed":["6.7.3"]},{"ecosystem":"NuGet","name":"TinyMCE","purl":"pkg:nuget/TinyMCE","ranges":["<5.10.9"],"fixed":["5.10.9"]},{"ecosystem":"NuGet","name":"TinyMCE","purl":"pkg:nuget/TinyMCE","ranges":[">=6.0.0 <6.7.3"],"fixed":["6.7.3"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
