{"cve":"CVE-2023-47111","nvd":{"published":"2023-11-08T22:15:10.657","modified":"2026-06-17T06:32:10.397","status":"Modified","description":"ZITADEL provides identity infrastructure. ZITADEL provides administrators the possibility to define a `Lockout Policy` with a maximum amount of failed password check attempts. On every failed password check, the amount of failed checks is compared against the configured maximum. Exceeding the limit, will lock the user and prevent further authentication. In the affected implementation it was possible for an attacker to start multiple parallel password checks, giving him the possibility to try out more combinations than configured in the `Lockout Policy`. This vulnerability has been patched in versions 2.40.5 and 2.38.3.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L","score":3.7},"cwes":["CWE-362"],"references":["https://github.com/zitadel/zitadel/commit/22e2d5599918864877e054ebe82fb834a5aa1077","https://github.com/zitadel/zitadel/releases/tag/v2.38.3","https://github.com/zitadel/zitadel/releases/tag/v2.40.5","https://github.com/zitadel/zitadel/security/advisories/GHSA-7h8m-vrxx-vr4m","https://github.com/zitadel/zitadel/commit/22e2d5599918864877e054ebe82fb834a5aa1077"],"products":["zitadel:zitadel"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:42:07.670898610+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2023-47111","score":0.00516,"percentile":0.43954,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-7h8m-vrxx-vr4m","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-7h8m-vrxx-vr4m","summary":"ZITADEL race condition in lockout policy execution","modified":"2026-09-10T03:49:58.782363243Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/zitadel/zitadel","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/zitadel/zitadel","ranges":[">=2.39.0 <2.40.5"],"fixed":["2.40.5"]},{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/zitadel/zitadel","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/zitadel/zitadel","ranges":["<2.38.3"],"fixed":["2.38.3"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
