A crafted image file can trigger `stbi__load_gif_main_outofmem` attempt to double-free the out variable. This happens in `stbi__load_gif_main` because when the `layers * stride` value is zero the behavior is implementation defined, but common that realloc frees the old memory and returns null pointer. Since it attempts to double-free the memory a few lines below the first “free”, the issue can be potentially exploited only in a multi-threaded environment. In the worst case this may lead to code execution.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":8.8},"cwes":["CWE-415"],"references":["https://github.com/nothings/stb/blob/5736b15f7ea0ffb08dd38af21067c314d6a3aae9/stb_image.h#L6993-L6995","https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce@lists.fedoraproject.org/message/NMXKOKPP4BKTNUTF5KSRDQAWOUILQZNO/","https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce@lists.fedoraproject.org/message/QVABVF4GEM6BYD5L4L64RCRSXUHY6LGN/","https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce@lists.fedoraproject.org/message/UVQ7ONFH5GWLMXYEAJG32A3EUKUCEVCR/","https://securitylab.github.com/advisories/GHSL-2023-145_GHSL-2023-151_stb_image_h/"],"products":["nothings:stb_image.h"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:40:11.519948003+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2023-45664","score":0.00933,"percentile":0.60727,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
