Autoinstrumentation out of the box adds the label `http_method` that has unbound cardinality. It leads to the server's potential memory exhaustion when many malicious requests are sent. HTTP method for requests can be easily set by an attacker to be random and long. In order to be affected program has to be instrumented for HTTP handlers and does not filter any unknown HTTP methods on the level of CDN, LB, previous middleware, etc. This issue has been patched in version 0.41b0.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-400"],"references":["https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-python-contrib/commit/6007e0c013071e7f8b9612d3bc68aeb9d600d74e","https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-python-contrib/releases/tag/v0.41b0","https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-python-contrib/security/advisories/GHSA-5rv5-6h4r-h22v","https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-python-contrib/commit/6007e0c013071e7f8b9612d3bc68aeb9d600d74e","https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-python-contrib/releases/tag/v0.41b0"],"products":["opentelemetry:opentelemetry"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:39:34.467980132+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2023-43810","score":0.00845,"percentile":0.57993,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-5rv5-6h4r-h22v","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-5rv5-6h4r-h22v","summary":"opentelemetry-instrumentation Denial of Service vulnerability due to unbound cardinality metrics","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:03.497176578Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"opentelemetry-instrumentation","purl":"pkg:pypi/opentelemetry-instrumentation","ranges":["<0.41b0"],"fixed":["0.41b0"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-1752","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-1752","summary":"opentelemetry-instrumentation Denial of Service vulnerability due to unbound cardinality metrics","modified":"2026-07-07T17:46:23.923569649Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"opentelemetry-instrumentation","purl":"pkg:pypi/opentelemetry-instrumentation","ranges":["<0.41b0"],"fixed":["0.41b0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
