{"cve":"CVE-2023-43642","nvd":{"published":"2023-09-25T20:15:11.723","modified":"2026-06-17T06:26:08.227","status":"Modified","description":"snappy-java is a Java port of the snappy, a fast C++ compresser/decompresser developed by Google. The SnappyInputStream was found to be vulnerable to Denial of Service (DoS) attacks when decompressing data with a too large chunk size. Due to missing upper bound check on chunk length, an unrecoverable fatal error can occur. All versions of snappy-java including the latest released version 1.1.10.3 are vulnerable to this issue. A fix has been introduced in commit `9f8c3cf74` which will be included in the 1.1.10.4 release. Users are advised to upgrade. Users unable to upgrade should only accept compressed data from trusted sources.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-770"],"references":["https://github.com/xerial/snappy-java/commit/9f8c3cf74223ed0a8a834134be9c917b9f10ceb5","https://github.com/xerial/snappy-java/security/advisories/GHSA-55g7-9cwv-5qfv","https://github.com/xerial/snappy-java/commit/9f8c3cf74223ed0a8a834134be9c917b9f10ceb5","https://github.com/xerial/snappy-java/security/advisories/GHSA-55g7-9cwv-5qfv"],"products":["xerial:snappy-java"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:39:34.467980132+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2023-43642","score":0.01211,"percentile":0.6847,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-55g7-9cwv-5qfv","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-55g7-9cwv-5qfv","summary":"snappy-java's missing upper bound check on chunk length can lead to Denial of Service (DoS) impact","modified":"2026-09-10T03:49:57.806661468Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.xerial.snappy:snappy-java","purl":"pkg:maven/org.xerial.snappy/snappy-java","ranges":["<1.1.10.4"],"fixed":["1.1.10.4"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
