Header\n\n2. Data\n\nWhen a connection is made, the server is waiting for 4 bytes of data, which will be the header,\nand these 4 bytes would be parsed as uint32 size of the actual data to come.\n\nThen, in the function “handleRequest” this size is then used in order to allocate a payload on\nthe stack for the incoming data.\n\nAs this payload is allocated on the stack, this will allow overflowing the stack size allocated for\nthe relevant process with freely controlled data.\n\n* An attacker can crash the system. \n* An attacker can gain control over the system, specifically on the “vtpm_server” process\nwhich has very high privileges.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":9.9},"cwes":["CWE-770","CWE-789"],"references":["https://asrg.io/security-advisories/cve-2023-43632/","https://asrg.io/security-advisories/cve-2023-43632/"],"products":["linuxfoundation:edge_virtualization_engine"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:39:24.235896374+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2023-43632","score":0.00658,"percentile":0.5149,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-6jp5-grgh-jw42","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-6jp5-grgh-jw42","summary":"EVE Freely Allocates Buffer on The Stack With Data From Socket","modified":"2026-02-05T03:56:07.902243Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/lf-edge/eve","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/lf-edge/eve","ranges":["<0.0.0-20230519072751-977f42b07fa9"],"fixed":["0.0.0-20230519072751-977f42b07fa9"]}]},{"id":"GO-2026-4422","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GO-2026-4422","summary":"EVE Freely Allocates Buffer on The Stack With Data From Socket in github.com/lf-edge/eve","modified":"2026-02-05T03:56:07.902243Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/lf-edge/eve","purl":"pkg:golang/github.com/lf-edge/eve","ranges":["<0.0.0-20230519072751-977f42b07fa9"],"fixed":["0.0.0-20230519072751-977f42b07fa9"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
