In version 0.1.1, the blurhash parsing code may panic due to multiple panic-guarded out-of-bounds accesses on untrusted input. In a typical deployment, this may get triggered by feeding a maliciously crafted blurhashes over the network. These may include UTF-8 compliant strings containing multi-byte UTF-8 characters. A patch is available in version 0.2.0, which requires user intervention because of slight API churn. No known workarounds are available.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-1284","CWE-248","CWE-392"],"references":["https://github.com/whisperfish/blurhash-rs/security/advisories/GHSA-cxvp-82cq-57h2","https://github.com/whisperfish/blurhash-rs/security/advisories/GHSA-cxvp-82cq-57h2"],"products":["whisperfish:blurhash-rs"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:39:24.235896374+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2023-42447","score":0.00624,"percentile":0.49918,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-cxvp-82cq-57h2","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-cxvp-82cq-57h2","summary":"blurhash panics on parsing crafted inputs","modified":"2026-03-16T03:02:05.567860Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"blurhash","purl":"pkg:cargo/blurhash","ranges":[">=0.1.1 <0.2.0"],"fixed":["0.2.0"]}]},{"id":"RUSTSEC-2023-0083","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/RUSTSEC-2023-0083","summary":"blurhash: panic on parsing crafted blurhash inputs","modified":"2026-10-13T15:15:50.817581277Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"blurhash","purl":"pkg:cargo/blurhash","ranges":[">=0.0.0-0 <0.2.0"],"fixed":["0.2.0"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
