{"cve":"CVE-2023-41329","nvd":{"published":"2023-09-06T21:15:14.517","modified":"2026-06-17T06:21:48.703","status":"Modified","description":"WireMock is a tool for mocking HTTP services. The proxy mode of WireMock, can be protected by the network restrictions configuration, as documented in Preventing proxying to and recording from specific target addresses. These restrictions can be configured using the domain names, and in such a case the configuration is vulnerable to the DNS rebinding attacks. A similar patch was applied in WireMock 3.0.0-beta-15 for the WireMock Webhook Extensions. The root cause of the attack is a defect in the logic which allows for a race condition triggered by a DNS server whose address expires in between the initial validation and the outbound network request that might go to a domain that was supposed to be prohibited. Control over a DNS service is required to exploit this attack, so it has high execution complexity and limited impact. This issue has been addressed in version 2.35.1 of wiremock-jre8 and wiremock-jre8-standalone, version 3.0.3 of wiremock and wiremock-standalone, version 2.6.1 of the python version of wiremock, and versions 2.35.1-1 and 3.0.3-1 of the wiremock/wiremock Docker container. Users are advised to upgrade. Users unable to upgrade should either configure firewall rules to define the list of permitted destinations or to configure WireMock to use IP addresses instead of the domain names.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":6.6},"cwes":["CWE-290"],"references":["https://github.com/wiremock/wiremock/security/advisories/GHSA-pmxq-pj47-j8j4","https://wiremock.org/docs/configuration/#preventing-proxying-to-and-recording-from-specific-target-addresses","https://github.com/wiremock/wiremock/security/advisories/GHSA-pmxq-pj47-j8j4","https://wiremock.org/docs/configuration/#preventing-proxying-to-and-recording-from-specific-target-addresses"],"products":["wiremock:python_wiremock","wiremock:studio","wiremock:wiremock","wiremock:wiremock_docker"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:39:24.235896374+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2023-41329","score":0.00629,"percentile":0.50166,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-pmxq-pj47-j8j4","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-pmxq-pj47-j8j4","summary":"Domain restrictions bypass via DNS Rebinding in WireMock and WireMock Studio webhooks, proxy and recorder modes","modified":"2026-09-10T03:49:58.610466381Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.wiremock:wiremock-standalone","purl":"pkg:maven/org.wiremock/wiremock-standalone","ranges":["<3.0.3"],"fixed":["3.0.3"]},{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.wiremock:wiremock","purl":"pkg:maven/org.wiremock/wiremock","ranges":["<3.0.3"],"fixed":["3.0.3"]},{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"com.github.tomakehurst:wiremock-jre8","purl":"pkg:maven/com.github.tomakehurst/wiremock-jre8","ranges":["<2.35.1"],"fixed":["2.35.1"]},{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"com.github.tomakehurst:wiremock-jre8-standalone","purl":"pkg:maven/com.github.tomakehurst/wiremock-jre8-standalone","ranges":["<2.35.1"],"fixed":["2.35.1"]},{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"wiremock","purl":"pkg:pypi/wiremock","ranges":["<2.6.1"],"fixed":["2.6.1"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2026-2050","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2026-2050","summary":"Domain restrictions bypass via DNS Rebinding in WireMock and WireMock Studio webhooks, proxy and recorder modes","modified":"2026-07-07T17:56:46.218731855Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"wiremock","purl":"pkg:pypi/wiremock","ranges":["<2.6.1"],"fixed":["2.6.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
