{"cve":"CVE-2023-33192","nvd":{"published":"2023-05-27T04:15:25.673","modified":"2026-06-17T06:01:16.607","status":"Modified","description":"ntpd-rs is an NTP implementation written in Rust. ntpd-rs does not validate the length of NTS cookies in received NTP packets to the server. An attacker can crash the server by sending a specially crafted NTP packet containing a cookie shorter than what the server expects. The server also crashes when it is not configured to handle NTS packets. The issue was caused by improper slice indexing. The indexing operations were replaced by safer alternatives that do not crash the ntpd-rs server process but instead properly handle the error condition. A patch was released in version 0.3.3.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-130"],"references":["https://github.com/pendulum-project/ntpd-rs/pull/752","https://github.com/pendulum-project/ntpd-rs/security/advisories/GHSA-qwhm-h7v3-mrjx","https://github.com/pendulum-project/ntpd-rs/pull/752","https://github.com/pendulum-project/ntpd-rs/security/advisories/GHSA-qwhm-h7v3-mrjx"],"products":["tweedegolf:ntpd-rs"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:38:24.161619714+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2023-33192","score":0.00708,"percentile":0.53482,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-qwhm-h7v3-mrjx","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-qwhm-h7v3-mrjx","summary":"Improper handling of NTS cookie length that could crash the ntpd-rs server","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:08.269918785Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"ntpd","purl":"pkg:cargo/ntpd","ranges":[">=0.3.0 <0.3.3"],"fixed":["0.3.3"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
