A sandbox escape vulnerability exists in vm2 for versions up to and including 3.9.17. It abuses an unexpected creation of a host object based on the specification of `Proxy`. As a result a threat actor can bypass the sandbox protections to gain remote code execution rights on the host running the sandbox. This vulnerability was patched in the release of version `3.9.18` of `vm2`. Users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":10.0},"cwes":["CWE-74"],"references":["https://gist.github.com/arkark/e9f5cf5782dec8321095be3e52acf5ac","https://github.com/patriksimek/vm2/commit/d88105f99752305c5b8a77b63ddee3ec86912daf","https://github.com/patriksimek/vm2/releases/tag/3.9.18","https://github.com/patriksimek/vm2/security/advisories/GHSA-whpj-8f3w-67p5","https://gist.github.com/arkark/e9f5cf5782dec8321095be3e52acf5ac"],"products":["vm2_project:vm2"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:38:18.424950729+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2023-32314","score":0.08127,"percentile":0.94837,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-whpj-8f3w-67p5","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-whpj-8f3w-67p5","summary":"vm2 Sandbox Escape vulnerability","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:08.326021978Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"vm2","purl":"pkg:npm/vm2","ranges":["<3.9.18"],"fixed":["3.9.18"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
