C-ares only uses this function internally for configuration purposes which would require an administrator to configure such an address via ares_set_sortlist(). However, users may externally use ares_inet_net_pton() for other purposes and thus be vulnerable to more severe issues. This issue has been fixed in 1.19.1.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":6.4},"cwes":["CWE-787","CWE-124"],"references":["https://github.com/c-ares/c-ares/releases/tag/cares-1_19_1","https://github.com/c-ares/c-ares/security/advisories/GHSA-x6mf-cxr9-8q6v","https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2023/06/msg00034.html","https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce@lists.fedoraproject.org/message/B5Z5XFNXTNPTCBBVXFDNZQVLLIE6VRBY/","https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce@lists.fedoraproject.org/message/UBFWILTA33LOSV23P44FGTQQIDRJHIY7/"],"products":["c-ares_project:c-ares","debian:debian_linux","fedoraproject:fedora"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:38:24.161619714+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2023-31130","score":0.00383,"percentile":0.32335,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
