{"cve":"CVE-2023-31125","nvd":{"published":"2023-05-08T21:15:11.347","modified":"2026-06-17T05:56:19.340","status":"Modified","description":"Engine.IO is the implementation of transport-based cross-browser/cross-device bi-directional communication layer for Socket.IO. An uncaught exception vulnerability was introduced in version 5.1.0 and included in version 4.1.0 of the `socket.io` parent package. Older versions are not impacted. A specially crafted HTTP request can trigger an uncaught exception on the Engine.IO server, thus killing the Node.js process. This impacts all the users of the `engine.io` package, including those who use depending packages like `socket.io`. This issue was fixed in version 6.4.2 of Engine.IO. There is no known workaround except upgrading to a safe version.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":6.5},"cwes":["CWE-248"],"references":["https://github.com/socketio/engine.io/commit/fc480b4f305e16fe5972cf337d055e598372dc44","https://github.com/socketio/engine.io/releases/tag/6.4.2","https://github.com/socketio/engine.io/security/advisories/GHSA-q9mw-68c2-j6m5","https://security.netapp.com/advisory/ntap-20230622-0002/","https://github.com/socketio/engine.io/commit/fc480b4f305e16fe5972cf337d055e598372dc44"],"products":["socket:engine.io"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:38:18.424950729+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2023-31125","score":0.01327,"percentile":0.7099,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-q9mw-68c2-j6m5","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-q9mw-68c2-j6m5","summary":"engine.io Uncaught Exception vulnerability","modified":"2026-09-10T03:50:08.184599659Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"engine.io","purl":"pkg:npm/engine.io","ranges":[">=5.1.0 <6.4.2"],"fixed":["6.4.2"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
