{"cve":"CVE-2023-30623","nvd":{"published":"2023-04-24T22:15:09.870","modified":"2026-06-17T05:55:10.577","status":"Modified","description":"`embano1/wip` is a GitHub Action written in Bash. Prior to version 2, the `embano1/wip` action uses the `github.event.pull_request.title` parameter in an insecure way. The title parameter is used in a run statement - resulting in a command injection vulnerability due to string interpolation. This vulnerability can be triggered by any user on GitHub. They just need to create a pull request with a commit message containing an exploit. (Note that first-time PR requests will not be run - but the attacker can submit a valid PR before submitting an invalid PR). The commit can be genuine, but the commit message can be malicious. This can be used to execute code on the GitHub runners and can be used to exfiltrate any secrets used in the CI pipeline, including repository tokens. Version 2 has a fix for this issue.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":8.8},"cwes":["CWE-77"],"references":["https://github.com/embano1/wip/commit/c25450f77ed02c20d00b76ee3b33ff43838739a2","https://github.com/embano1/wip/security/advisories/GHSA-rg3q-prf8-qxmp","https://securitylab.github.com/research/github-actions-untrusted-input/","https://github.com/embano1/wip/commit/c25450f77ed02c20d00b76ee3b33ff43838739a2","https://github.com/embano1/wip/security/advisories/GHSA-rg3q-prf8-qxmp"],"products":["wip_project:wip"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:38:05.473481323+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2023-30623","score":0.03728,"percentile":0.89813,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
